DA calls on Mayor Dada Morero to institute disciplinary action against “Witness K”

The DA in the City of Johannesburg calls for the suspension of “Witness K”, an employee of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD).

This follows the investigation into the serious allegations revealed at the Madlanga Commission, implicating her in the theft of precious gemstones valued at R14.9 million during a bogus police raid in 2023.

Despite Witness K’s arrest, no disciplinary action has been taken against this JMPD officer by the Public Safety Department.

This amplifies the lack of accountability, transparency and/or consequence management from the ANC-led Executive.

It is evident that they have chosen to remain silent to avoid taking responsibility for their failures.

We have written to Mayor Dada Morero to demand that disciplinary action be taken against Witness K in order to ensure that the public image of the JMPD is protected from these serious allegations, which have clearly brought the Public Safety Department into disrepute.

Morale and honesty are silent yet crucial driving forces that enable the improved execution of JMPD officers’ primary function of serving and protecting the six million residents of the City.

No officer in the JMPD must be seen to receive special treatment. The rule of law must apply equally to all employees of the City.

Residents must register to vote on 4 November in the 2026 Local Government Elections for a DA-led administration that will continue fighting crime and eliminating corruption in Johannesburg.
