Tommorow, 10 July 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Leader of the Official Opposition, Solly Msimanga MPL, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL, DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Community Safety, Michael Sun MPL, DA Constituency Head for Pretoria North, Bronwynn Engelbrecht MPL, and the DA Ward 98 Cllr Candidate, Mickey Van Der Westhuizen will conduct an oversight inspection at the Akasia Police Station in Tshwane.
According to the recent crime statistics, Akasia is among the top 40 police stations for attempted murder, sexual offences and contact crimes in the province. This data suggests that the safety of Akasia residents is at risk. Furthermore, concerns have been raised about inadequate resources at the station, including holding cells.
During our oversight inspection, the DA delegation will meet with the leadership at Akasia Police Station to understand the reasons for the increase in serious and violent crimes. We will also evaluate whether police officers and the station have adequate resources to fight crime in the area. The DA will also launch its Anti-Crime Campaign aimed at exposing and providing solutions to fighting crime in Gauteng.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
