It is with deep sadness that the Democratic Alliance (DA) learnt of the passing of our much-loved colleague and dedicated public representative, Christo van den Heever (27 Oct 1958 – 14 Sept 2025).

Christo was a well-loved figure across the political spectrum, respected by members of all parties for his fairness, commitment, and unwavering service to the people. This much is evident in the overwhelming reaction from political parties, and colleagues from the Tshwane council over the past days.

Over his 17 years of active involvement in politics, he distinguished himself through a career marked by integrity, hard work, and passion for public service. His commitment especially shined through in ensuring the smooth, fair, and effective running of the Tshwane Council Chamber in his time as the Chief Whip of the Tshwane Council. Christo truly embodied fairness and dedication.

Beyond this, he also held various other important roles, including Constituency Chairperson, a member of Tshwane’s regional executive, PR and Ward Councillor, each of which he fulfilled with the same energy and dedication that defined his life’s work.

The DA extends its heartfelt condolences to Christo’s family, friends, colleagues, and community. His passing leaves a great void not only in our party but in the broader political landscape.

May his legacy of service and commitment to the people continue to inspire us all.
