The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng demands that the Gauteng Department of Roads and Logistics immediately assist all municipal-run Driver’s Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs) in the province. The DLTCs are struggling due to a lack of adequate resources to print and issue driving licences and vehicle licences. This negatively impacts residents, as some owners in the transport industry may take advantage of the situation and transport people without the necessary papers, putting lives in danger.
This was revealed during a Roads and Logistics Portfolio Committee meeting on Roads and Logistics, that the department’s lack of financial assistance is placing a strain on the day-to-day activities of the DLTC.
Currently, there is no proper filing system in place, and often the DLTCs do not have water, which means offices will be closed for that day. Furthermore, there is no visible signage outside the DLTCs, and motorists coming to the centre are often harassed by ‘runners or agencies’ who try to elicit a bribe from them when they arrive at the DLTC.

The DA will, through the committee, push the MEC for Roads and Logistics, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, to immediately put a financial plan in place to assist DLTCs with the equipment and resources needed to provide services to motorists.
A DA-led Gauteng provincial government would immediately assess all DLTCs in the province to ascertain what assistance is needed from the department. Once this has been established, we will provide support and financial assistance where needed.
