The DA strongly rejects alleged political interference by Executive Mayor Dada Morero and ANC MMCs in the administration of Johannesburg, attempting to lead decisions over which outstanding projects and service providers must be prioritised.
The DA is in possession of a recording of the Mayor discussing how and in which communities loan funding should be spent, which raises serious questions about how loan funding is being allocated and how capable officials are being led astray and further risking financial audit findings.
Mayor Morero fails to respond to the DA, continuously. It is for this reason we will be taking the matter to Gauteng MEC for COGTA for investigation into possible violations of the MFMA by the ANC Mayor and MMCs.
This is public money, not ANC money and certainly not an ANC election fund. Financial decisions must be made lawfully, transparently and in accordance with the MFMA and approved City processes.
The political timing is impossible to ignore. The ANC must not use the City’s administration and public money to protect its political interests. Johannesburg belongs to its residents, not the ANC.
