Today, Thursday 17 September 2026, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Spokesperson for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Leanne De Jager MPL, will conduct an oversight inspection at the Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.
The oversight follows questions about whether the renovated upper-level storage area at Museum Africa meets the security, environmental, and infrastructure standards required to safely accommodate the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) collection temporarily.
De Jager will be joined by DA Johannesburg Shadow MMC for Community Development, Cllr Lyrics Mazibuko. Together they will assess the challenges affecting the facility and seek clarity on the measures being taken to safeguard the JAG collection during the relocation process.
