Tomorrow, 21 July 2026, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng will conduct an oversight inspection at the Montrose Mega City housing project in the Rand West City Local Municipality.

The inspection follows reports that the flagship R11 billion housing project, launched in 2017 to help address Gauteng’s housing crisis, has continued to deteriorate into a derelict symbol of mismanagement and neglect by the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDHS). This is despite repeated warnings by the DA that if housing projects are left abandoned, they will be illegally occupied and damaged by those with criminal intent.

The inspection will be led by the DA Shadow MEC, Mervyn Cirota MPL, DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Human Settlements, Evert Du Plessis MPL and the DA Rand West City Mayoral Candidate, Jacques Julius, and the DA Ward Cllr, Bernard Green.

The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
