National Treasury has temporarily withheld Emfuleni’s equitable share due to the municipality’s failure to address Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful Expenditure (UIFWE) and implement consequence management.
This is the reckoning that has been awaiting the ANC-led municipality for a long time as they have recklessly mismanaged resources. This has resulted in a service delivery crisis that has left residents in a state of neglect.
We welcome the National Treasury withholding funds due to UIFWE. This ANC-led municipality cannot be allowed to run rogue any longer and must be held accountable.
The objective is not to negatively affect service delivery or salaries of municipal staff but rather putting an end to the rampant financial delinquency that is stunting Emfuleni.
We are calling on the municipality to appropriately respond and comply with National Treasury’s demands and to submit evidence that they have rectified the issues that were identified so that funding can be reinstated.
