The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Emfuleni is delighted to hear of the latest developments relating to the arrest of an Emfuleni Municipality Employee alongside the local African National Congress (ANC) branch chairperson. These two individuals are being charged with allegations of Extortion.
We call for expedition of this matter. We demand:
1. The Municipality to suspend the employee while the case is ongoing.
2. The court to resolve this matter as soon as possible
These recent developments are an indication that the ruling party is failing to instill discipline in the institution and it further exposes their lack of understanding when it comes to the “the state and party dichotomy”. This is also a clear indication that the government of the day is failing to develop intact internal controls as this incident is taking place a week after three suspects were arrested for ‘Cash for Jobs” in the same Municipality.
The DA will always fight against any form of criminality within the Emfuleni local Municipality. Criminality affects residents and robs them of fair opportunities.
We urge the residents of Emfuleni to contact the authorities with any form of evidence or information of similar crimes. Together we will tackle the elements of criminality in our municipality.
