The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) has no concrete plan in place to ensure that residents of this province are provided with the much-needed infrastructure.

This is concerning as GDID is the implementing agency for all infrastructure projects like building new schools, hospitals and clinics.

According to a reply received from the MEC for Infrastructure Development, Lebogang Maile, GDID does not have any idea what the current backlog is in infrastructure projects in the province.

Furthermore, GDID claims that between 2013 and 2023, they were not the implementing agency for all infrastructure projects. Therefore, they cannot give the exact details of what projects have been undertaken in the province as a whole.

In addition, MEC Maile is unable to indicate precisely what the budget requirements would be to complete all infrastructure projects in this province.

Currently, there are also no Public-Private Partnerships that this department is undertaking to complete critical infrastructure.

The DA demands that MEC Maile urgently conducts an audit on all infrastructure projects, including projects where they are not the implementing agency. The building of new schools, hospitals and clinics is critical, especially with the high in-migration rate in this province.

Where the DA governs in the Western Cape, 25 new schools have been built in partnership with a private education provider. A DA government will cut the red tape that inhibits Public-Private Partnerships to accelerate service delivery in the health, education and housing sectors.
