I am horrified by a video that has been posted on Twitter that shows thugs attacking a man at the casualty unit of the South Rand Hospital in south Johannesburg.

It was posted by @Jemina86217423 and reposted by @crimewatch202, indicating that it took place at 3 am on Saturday morning this past weekend.
According to the original tweet “Terrified doctors and nurses lock themselves in emergency ward. Securities ran away. When police eventually arrived they were nonchalant about the matter.”
The video shows three men beating up a man on the floor in the corridor while hospital staff plead with them to leave him alone. At the end of the video there is blood on the floor and the man is dragged out, his fate unknown.
The hospital management must account for the lack of security that led to this terrible incident. Police should also publicize the faces of the men involved so that they can be arrested.
I am very concerned that staff and patients at other Gauteng hospitals have also been threatened at night in casualty departments.
The Gauteng Health Department needs to review security at all hospitals so that there is adequate protection.
