The solar project on the flyover bridge on the R42 in Emfuleni has cost taxpayers R8.5 million, with no meaningful results to show.
The DA tabled questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, inquiring about the details of the project. It was disclosed to me that the project started in July 2025, with a total of 368 solar installations reportedly installed. Of these, 152 were stolen, while the report claims that only 116 remain intact.
However, the first issue is that this calculation is incorrect. If 152 were stolen from a total of 368, the remaining number should be 216, not 116. Where are the other 100?
How can such an inattentive ANC MEC for Transport and Logistics be trusted with an important portfolio while irresponsibly providing a thoughtless account to the public?
This is not the only discrepancy. I conducted an oversight visit to the location of the project and failed to find any solar installations erected on site.
This raises serious questions about the ANC-led government’s accountability for the apparent absence of the solar installations, while communities continue to suffer from poor service delivery and the misuse of public resources.
So, which is it? 116, 216, no solar installations at all or is it simply just a mystery?
This conflicting information appears to be an attempt to mislead and confuse, preventing proper scrutiny of what happened to the money intended for the solar project and whether public funds may have been stolen.
