During a recent oversight visit to the Khutsong Cemetery, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Merafong Local Municipality came across numerous vandalised and defaced graves, tombstones, and plaques scattered around the premises.
Despite the chaotic scenes, the on-site security, the contracted Wenzile Phaphama Security, was present at the gate, yet failed to stop the destruction or protect the dignity of the cemetery.
The DA demands answers from Merafong: Where was the security when our loved ones’ resting places were being violated?
We will submit formal questions to Merafong to compel the immediate restoration and maintenance of the Khutsong Cemetery, as well as to determine why the contracted security failed to act and what disciplinary action will be taken.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families affected by this act of vandalism. Their grief is aggravated by the neglect of the ANC government in Merafong of its responsibilities.
