Sebokeng Driving Licensing Testing Centre (DLTC) stands in a state of disrepair, heavily vandalised and in ruin despite over R9.4 million spent on security services meant to safeguard the facility. The DA in Gauteng demands that Gauteng MEC for Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), Jacob Mamabolo, fast-track the completion of the Sebokeng DLTC to ensure that Emfuleni residents have access to this facility instead of wasting taxpayers’ money on paying ineffective security companies.
According to MEC Mamabolo, a total of R9,420,295.68 has been spent on securing the Sebokeng DLTC as of 01 June 2019 to date. This information was disclosed in a reply to the DA questions posed in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL). The breakdown of expenditure per year is as follows:
R966 000 in 2019/2020
R1 102 290.00 in 2020/2021
R1 088 858.16 in 2021/2022
R2 053 800.00 in 2022/2023
R2 063 400.00 in 2023/2024
R2 145 947.52 in 2024/2025

It is a travesty that this project, which has already cost taxpayers over R78 million, has been abandoned and left to rot while residents are forced to commute or walk long distances to access DLTC services.
It is equally absurd that millions of rands are wasted on paying security companies who fail to deliver services.
The Sebokeng DLTC is another example of the DID’s failure to complete projects on time and within budget.
The DA will write to MEC Mamabolo to provide timelines to ensure this project is completed within the stipulated additional budget.
A DA-led Gauteng provincial government would have ensured the timely completion of this DLTC, making it accessible to residents and improving their quality of life.
