The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has successfully pressured the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to complete repairs on the collapsing embankment of the N14 next to the bridge over the Crocodile River/Driefontein Road.
The embankment started to collapse due to the floods in December 2022. Since then, the Democratic Alliance Gauteng has pressured the department, through its provincial and local representatives, to address the issues with this road. As a result of this pressure, the department responded and completed the necessary repairs. This action has restored the integrity of the highway and helped prevent a potential disaster and loss of life.
Without the pressure that we, along with the community of Mogale City, placed on the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), this would not have been the case. The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport had been slow to respond and needed to be pushed to take action.
This is a triumph for the DA Gauteng, as our pressure compelled the department to respond and complete the repairs, which is a relief to over 25,000 vehicles that use the N14 daily.
The DA Gauteng will continue to ensure that all our roads are properly maintained. This will reduce the risk of potholes and sinkholes forming which damage vehicles and pose risks to pedestrians.
Only a DA-led Gauteng provincial government can rescue our roads and ease the burden on motorists by implementing an infrastructure master plan which prioritises road maintenance.
