Tomorrow, Friday, 07 February 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Spokesperson for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Leanne De Jager MPL will conduct an oversight inspection at the Heidelberg Heritage Museum in Heidelberg, Gauteng.
The visit comes after the DA was informed of threats from the Lesedi Local Municipality to close the historical museum, despite the R6.8 million in ratepayer funds spent to ensure that the museum is fully operational and recognised.
The DA views the recent threats against this renowned heritage site—known for its stunning architecture and vibrant historical significance—as deeply unfortunate. This facility, which draws countless tourists every year, represents a vital piece of our cultural legacy and should be protected at all costs.
During this oversight inspection, the DA delegation will engage with the Museum’s management and the public to determine the reasons for the impending closure and the impact this will have on the preservation of heritage and the businesses around the area.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Friday, 07 February 2025
