The Democratic Alliance is most concerned about unanswered questions following the death of 32-year-old Mirriam Singh a week ago when she went to give birth at the Westbury Clinic.
According to the Gauteng Health Department, their investigation has cleared the clinic staff of negligence in her death as they say she had a serious underlying condition.
The family, however, is not satisfied with the explanation they have been given.
An important question is why the baby died as well.
There is an understandable suspicion that the department is unjustly absolving itself.
The best way to resolve this is to have a speedy mediation by independent experts to ensure findings are objectively examined and discussed with the family.
A radical overhaul of top management is needed to restore public trust in our health facilities.
