In ActionSA (ASA) the ANC-EFF coalition in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) have found a pliable partner who will leave the safe door wide open, so that those who wish to abuse public funds can do so with ease.

Residents in Ekurhuleni deserve a government that will look after them, spending money on them.

The DA cares deeply about this because if the wrong people control the finances there will be even less money for streetlights, road repairs, traffic lights and service delivery.

Across Gauteng, ActionSA – in its desperate attempt to remain relevant after a crippling showing in last year’s elections – will sell its soul to the highest bidder, and the EFF is more than happy to oblige.

Ekurhuleni, under the ANC-EFF, has run service delivery into the ground. With only 10 days cash on hand, millions of Rands outstanding to service providers and adverse warnings about its financial standing by the Audit Committee, the election of ASA to this position will only perpetuate the rot. The minor coalition partner across Gauteng, will now sing for its supper in Ekurhuleni too.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) put forward a candidate, our Spokesperson on Finance, Fanyana Nkosi – who as the former Ekurhuleni MMC for Finance kickstarted many initiatives that were beginning to turn the tide on the City of Elurhuleni’s debt and mismanaged finances. Our candidate was supported by the FF+, ACDP, and the IFP.

However, the ANC-EFF coalition brought ASA into the fold instead, to ensure that they can continue on their crusade to bankrupt Ekurhuleni.

While ASA have sold the residents of Ekurhuleni down the river, as the official opposition in Council, the DA will continue to exercise our legislative muscle to ensure that the public purse is safeguarded from abuse.
