DA to protest for City of Joburg to take water crisis seriously

Tomorrow, 27 November 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) will lead a protest outside the Johannesburg Council Chambers against the city’s inability to manage the ongoing water crisis in the city.

Hundreds of frustrated residents will add their voices to the DA’s call to dissolve the board of Johannesburg Water: an organisation that has effectively been captured politically. The board of Johannesburg Water is awash with cadres who lack the necessary technical skills to be at the head of an organisation tasked with keeping water in millions of taps. And this is why Johannesburg is experiencing such devastating water failures.

Following the protest, the DA will hand over a memorandum of demands to both the CoJ Executive and the Office of the Speaker demanding immediate intervention in the running of this crucial entity.

The protest will be led by DA Johannesburg Caucus Leader Cllr Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC of Infrastructure Nico de Jager MPL, DA Johannesburg Shadow MMC of Infrastructure Cllr Nicole van Dyk, and DA Johannesburg Regional Chairperson Wendy Alexander MP.

Members of the media are invited to attend, with opportunities for interviews and photographs.
