DA Gauteng to mark 16 Days of Activism at Burgers Park in Tshwane

Issued by DA Media –
25 Nov 2024 in Press Statements

Today, Monday, 25 November 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng will mark the start of the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children period, by conducting an oversight inspection at Burgerspark in Pretoria.

The oversight will be led by DA Gauteng Leader, Solly Msimanga MPL, the DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Social Development, Refiloe Nt’sekhe MPL, the DA Spokesperson for Social Development, Nazley Sharif MPL, the DA Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL and the DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Community Safety, Michael Sun MPL.

The Potter’s House Shelter which provided a safe haven for 20 women and their children who are victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV), has been closed since 28 June 2024 due to funding constraints.

The situation at Potter’s House Shelter is a prime example of why 365 days of activism are needed, and not just 16.

During our oversight inspection, we will engage with the women living in Burgers Park Street who have nowhere to go due to the shelter closing down.

The media is invited and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

Details of the oversight are as follows:

Date: 25 November 2024

Time: 10:30

Venue: Burgers Park

Address: 288 Burgers Park Lane, Pretoria
