Tomorrow, Tuesday, 29 October 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL and the DA Spokesperson for Community Safety, Michael Sun MPL, will open a case with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) against the Gauteng Department of Community Safety.
Recent revelations have emerged regarding a questionable tender awarded by the Gauteng Department of Community Safety for the procurement of 124 pistols at an exorbitant cost of R9.7 million. This averages out to R78,000 per pistol. Such a drastic price raises concerns and warrants an investigation, as it suggests possible corruption. According to Section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004, the Democratic Alliance (DA) is obligated to report any suspected corruption to the Special Investigating Unit for further investigation.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 29 October 2024
