Tommorow, Wednesday, 01 May 2024, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Premier Candidate, Solly Msimanga MPL, along with the Eldorado Park Constituency leader, Thami Mabhena MP, Midvaal Mayor, Cllr Peter Teixeira, DA City of Johannesburg PR Councillor for Wards 11 and 17, Cllr Vasco Da Gama, local DA Councillors, and activists, will host the Workers’ Day rally in Eldorado Park Ext 2.
The Premier Candidate will engage workers and the community following the closure of the Spar retail outlet due to gangsterism and looting, which led to the retrenchment of 400 workers in Eldorado Park and Ennerdale.
Gangsterism, fuelled by drug culture, continues to thrive in these areas under the current government, causing a wave of violence, shop destruction, and looting that hinders economic growth and job opportunities for the residents. Furthermore, political parties like the Patriotic Alliance (PA) are actively endorsing the activities of gang members by accusing shop owners of selling rotten foods, thus creating a fertile ground for looting and destruction of property and consequently the closure of shops, which end up becoming drug dens.
The Premier Candidate will outline how we intend to rescue Gauteng residents from a government that tolerates gangsterism and has proven to be ineffective in dealing with unnecessary intimidation of businesses that provide much-needed jobs and convenient services to township residents who cannot afford to travel more than 5 kilometres to access shops.
Members of the media are invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews with the DA leadership and photographs.
