The DA Tshwane Caucus welcomes the adoption of the innovative Community Upliftment Program (CUP) by the City of Tshwane Council. The CUP aims to empower both residential and business communities to actively enhance public spaces in their neighborhoods, fostering collaboration with the City of Tshwane to create a city we can all take pride in.

The CUP is not a shift of government responsibility but an implementation of the DA’s recently adopted federal policy, that emphasises the need for a Whole of Society Approach (WoSA). The CUP empowers communities to contribute to our city’s growth and improvement while allowing the municipality to tap into the knowledge, skills, and resources of our residents.

Given the constraints on municipal resources, each community contribution plays a crucial role in easing financial strain and maintaining essential services. The initiatives proposed through the CUP mechanism hold the potential for substantial benefits for our communities. Examples of such initiatives would include urban management programs to clear public spaces and the bolstering security through the installation of security cameras.

We encourage communities to connect with the city through the dedicated team in the City Manager’s office, facilitating applications and ensuring proper channeling of projects. To build a Capital City that works, it’s essential for everyone to play a part. The DA Tshwane Caucus eagerly anticipate joining hands with residents to build a city we can all be proud of.
