Charlotte Maxeke Hospital head must go

The DA in Gauteng is calling for the removal of Ms Gladys Bogoshi, the CEO of Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital, which faces yet another crisis as patients suffer without food and hot water.

Doctors and nurses are struggling to deal with hungry patients as bread and porridge is served for meals instead of the normal variety of nutritious food. Even tea and sugar are not available.

Hospital management has failed to communicate with staff as rumours fly about problems with the food contracts.

A competent CEO would have contingency plans for food shortages and would communicate extensively.

Bogoshi was appointed to head the hospital in February 2013, but services have worsened, and she is not held in high regard by staff as laundry, food, heating, and staffing crises continue.

She should have been held accountable for the devastating fire in April 2021, and she showed poor leadership in the slow restoration of services thereafter.

A top-class CEO should be recruited urgently to fix the hospital’s manifold problems, restore trust with staff, and improve the quality of patient care.
