The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng would like to congratulate Stevens Mokgalapa on his election as the new Executive Mayor of Tshwane.

The DA is confident that Mayor Mokgalapa will work hard to build on the previous successes of Tshwane under the leadership of Solly Msimanga.

This is in-line with our vision of building One Tshwane for All by opening and fair access to jobs, speeding up the delivery of quality services and the eliminating corruption.

Since taking office in 2016 we have achieved the following:

  • Corrected an inherited R2 billion deficit to show a surplus at the end of the first financial year in office in 2017
  • Uncovered over R1.5 billion that was squandered by the previous ANC government
  • Reduced unauthorised expenditure by over a billion and irregular expenditure by R100 million
  • Supported real economic development by opening the EPWP programme to all residents, not just those associated or linked to the ANC by adopting an open and inclusive lottery system
  • 16125 job opportunities created through the open and inclusive lottery system
  • Awarded 1800 bursaries to the value of R34 million
  • Received a credit upgrade from Moody’s and was assigned a stable outlook

These achievements clearly show that the DA is the only party committed to bringing Change to the lives of the residents of Tshwane.

Under the leadership of Mayor Mokgalapa, the residents of Tshwane will continue to experience improved service delivering by a City that is committed to providing basic services to all its residents.

This is the same Change we want to bring to Gauteng come May 2019.
