Today I launched the DA’s election pledges to the people of Ekurhuleni, at the Impala Park Community Centre. These pledges are our clear plan to restore effective governance, strengthen accountability, improve municipal services, and drive economic growth.
Residents of Ekurhuleni can look forward to a better future, where their Metro government works, under the DA if I am elected as Mayor. That is why pledging specific improvements is so important to me, so that there are measurable changes the people of this great City can look forward to.
The five focused pledges of my Mayoral Campaign are aimed at restoring the City’s dignity and economic standing by getting Ekurhuleni working for all.
To get Ekurhuleni working, the DA will deliver five pledges in five years:
- Growing the local economy by providing reliable basic services (roads, water, electricity), reducing red tape, and attracting investment.
- Stabilising the City’s finances by ensuring billing is done accurately, resolving the confusion around valuations, prioritising service delivery in the budget, and finding new revenues for the City by leveraging tourism and airport proximity.
- Crushing corruption and enforcing accountability through conducting lifestyle and skills audits, reviewing employment contracts, swift disciplinary processes and transparent tender contracts that undergo review and regular oversight.
- Creating a safer City by reforming and expanding the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) through frequent vetting, filling funded vacancies and equipping the police force with the necessary resources. Additionally, fostering collaboration with other police forums and entities, developing public private partnerships and tackling cable theft using anti-theft technology.
- Delivering basic services sustainably by monitoring and fixing service delivery hotspots, reinvesting money into water and electricity infrastructure and private sector participation in the development of infrastructure.
As Ekurhuleni prepares for the future, these pledges serve as a roadmap for rebuilding trust between residents and their local government. The DA’s commitment is to work alongside communities to create a City that reflects their aspirations and priorities.
I believe that there is no reason Ekurhuleni cannot work for all, but only if we catch and convict the criminals responsible for destroying your City. And we will govern for all people, spending money on delivery of services, and growing the economy.
We are ready to do just that.
