A year after a sinkhole was formed on the R563 in Krugersdorp, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Logistics has yet to appoint a contractor. The road infrastructure is deteriorating daily, and motorists are forced to use a dangerous road.
Last month, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng revealed that work on fixing the sinkhole was yet to start. This, despite the MEC for Roads and Logistics, Kedibone Tlabela-Diale, indicated that repairs to the road would begin in January this year.
The MEC’s promise of action only occurred after pressure from the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng.
During a recent oversight inspection by the Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Roads and Logistics, we found that the work had still not commenced. This is putting the lives of motorists and residents at risk daily.
Furthermore, this road serves as a key link to other parts of the province, and numerous accidents have been reported on this road due to its poor condition. This road serves as a crucial connection to other parts of the province, and numerous accidents have been reported on it due to its poor condition.
Additionally, motorists who sustain damage to their tyres will risk having their insurance premiums increase if they continually make claims to have the damage repaired.
The DA welcomes the MEC for Roads and Logistics engagement with the councillor of the area, and that within the next month, she will have the relevant reports and feedback regarding the fixing of the sinkhole on the R563.
A DA-led Gauteng Provincial Government would implement its infrastructure master plan, which includes partnering with the private sector and civil society to pool resources and assist in addressing the province’s crumbling infrastructure.
Yes, this can be done!
