The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane will press ahead with our NERSA Complaints Submission, despite yesterday’s presentation of a so-called turnaround plan for the City’s electricity network.
Yesterday, the mayor with much fanfare presented an energy turnaround plan. This, while Regional Council Forums were supposed to be taking place in both Regions 3, and 4 but collapsed due to quorum reasons and mayoral committee members, who are supposed to be chairing these meetings, attending the Mayor’s press conference.
These forums are constituted for councillors to address service delivery failures. It has been reported that region 3 has run out of budget for electricity repairs, while areas in this region has been without power for days the DA was intending to take up major electricity failures in key parts of the city.
This failure to engage constraints to electricity repairs head on means that these regions which include areas like Pretoria CBD, Brooklyn, Hatfield, Moot, Pretoria West, Centurion, Atteridgeville and Laudium amongst others, might end up in an even more dire situation than they face currently when repairs cannot be conducted on power outages due to insufficient funds.
Some of these areas are without water and electricity at the moment. And if it is true that their budgets have been depleted, we need immediate solutions. Not an action plan.
The DA calls on Comrade Moya to urgently come forward with the fact of how many regions are out of money, and are now left without budget for electricity improvements and repairs. Residents and public representatives deserve the truth.
