DA press statement on ANC-EFF political games in Gauteng

The Democratic Alliance (DA) condemns the blatant lack of maintenance that has left Mogale City in disrepair, while surplus funds is misspent on travel, conferences and catering.

This is evident by the unkept open spaces with overgrown grass, non-functional streetlight and roads riddled with potholes, with illegal dumping sites mushrooming across the municipality.

The decay of Mogale City is a lack of political will and poor service delivery on full display – a classic case of ANC misgovernance.

The DA can reveal that between October 2025 to December 2025 (3 months), the ANC-EFF-IFP government spent:

•     R210 400 catering for meetings;

•     R747 091, 32 on conferences and seminars; and

•     R907 159, 28 on travel and subsistence

A staggering total of over R1,8 million over 90 days or R20 000 per day on reckless luxury spending.

All the while, residents are continuing to pay higher rates and taxes with worsening service delivery.

These serious financial misjudgements combined with declining service delivery will be formally raised in council by the DA who will hold the failing ANC-EFF-IFP coalition accountable and demand urgent corrective action.

The former DA led coalition had started improving finances and reducing debt until the current ANC-EFF-IFP coalition prioritises luxury over service delivery, by wasting money, and not tending to basic service delivery.

Election 2026 will be a turning point for Mogale City, one where the only credible alternative, the DA, will turn Mogale around.
