Today, 08 October 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng will visit homes in Evaton to engage residents who have been without electricity for 10 years due to faulty transformers and the failure to replace those that are no longer functional or repairable.
Premier Panyaza Lesufi promised to electrify these homes by March 2024, but that deadline came and went without any transformers being repaired or replaced in Evaton.
The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) has also failed to implement the recommendations of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) following a petition tabled by the DA on this matter.
The inspection will be led by the following DA Gauteng delegation:
- DA Shadow MEC for Infrastructure, Nico de Jager MPL
- DA Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala MPL
- DA Emfuleni North Constituency Deputy Head, Motseki Hlalele
- DA Emfuleni Cllr Isaac Motloung
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
