Today, 25 September 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Spokesperson for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR), Leanne De Jager MPL, will conduct a follow-up oversight inspection at the Women’s Living Heritage Monument in Tshwane.
The over R200 million worth monument was completed in 2018 but remains partially operational despite the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (GDSACR)’s commitment to make it fully functional by specific deadlines, including October 2024.
As part of our Heritage Month campaign, the DA will reassess the heritage site to determine why its operationalisation continues to be delayed. We will also interact with residents and small business owners operating in the area surrounding the monument to assess the impact of the closure.
The media is invited to attend and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Thursday, 25 September 2025
Time: 10:30
Meeting point: Women’s Living Heritage Monument, 0001, Pretoria Central, Tshwane.
