Today, Wednesday, 30 July 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng will conduct an oversight inspection at identified hotspots in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, where theft and vandalism of infrastructure continue to undermine service delivery and disrupt the lives of residents.
The effects of these criminal activities include formation of sinkholes, traffic light failures, toxic fires and deteriorating recreational facilities, resulting in millions of rands in repair costs and lost revenue for the municipality.
As part of its Anti-Crime Campaign, the DA will stop at identified hotspots to assess the infrastructure damage and engage with affected communities, so that we can put pressure on the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) and the City of Ekurhuleni to take necessary corrective actions. The stops include:
• Rondebult Sinkhole.
• Stolen robots.
• Cable theft in Trichardts.
• Vandalised Tennis courts in Parkdene.
• Toxic fires in Blue Sky.
The inspection of identified hotspots will conclude with a visit to the Boksburg Police Station, where DA officials will evaluate the station’s capacity to address these criminal activities and safeguard local infrastructure. The DA will also hand over a petition to the SAPS regarding concerns about the toxic fires in Blue Sky.
The delegation will be led by Gauteng Leader of the Official Opposition, Solly Msimanga MPL. He will be accompanied by:
• The DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL,
• The DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Community Safety, Michael Sun MPL,
• The DA Boksburg Constituency Head, Ruhan Robinson MPL,
• The DA Ekurhuleni Spokesperson for Community Safety, Cllr Jaco Terblanche, and
• The DA Ekurhuleni Caucus Leader, Cllr Brandon Pretorius.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
