Today, 22 July 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) will conduct a walkabout along exploded Lillian Ngoyi (Bree Street), Carlton Centre, and Small Street engaging shop-owners on the impact of crime on their businesses. The delegation will then proceed to Johannesburg Central Police station to conduct an oversight inspection.
The DA in Gauteng has linked rising crime in Johannesburg’s CBD to declining economic activity, as businesses face mounting security costs or are forced to close or relocate.
As part of its Anti-Crime Campaign, the DA will conduct a walkabout to hear from local shop owners and visit Johannesburg Central Police Station to assess whether it has the resources to tackle inner-city crime and protect the local economy.
The delegation will be led by Gauteng Leader of the Official Opposition, Solly Msimanga MPL. He will be accompanied by:
The DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL,
The DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Community Safety, Michael Sun MPL, and
The DA Johannesburg Cllrs, Alex Christians and Bongani Nkwanyana.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
