Today, Tuesday, 28 January 2025, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Education, Sergio Isa dos Santos MPL, Pretoria North Head of Constituency, Bronwynn Engelbrecht MPL, and DA Ward Councillor, Quentin Meyer will conduct an oversight inspection at the Danie Malan Primary School in Tshwane.
The visit follows reports indicating that unidentified individuals have disrupted schooling by burning tyres and creating a dangerous environment near the school. To ensure the safety of the learners and teachers, the school has decided not to resume classes today.
The DA strongly condemns any action that seeks to deny learners access to basic education. We always encourage community members to find alternative ways to engage with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) when there are matters of concern without disrupting learning and teaching.
During this inspection, the DA delegation will engage the school management and the public to ascertain the causes of the disruption and propose effective solutions.
The media is invited to attend, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
