Patients at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital are suffering from a linen shortage as the in-house laundry machines have been broken for a month.
Some operations have been cancelled as unwashed laundry piles up at the hospital laundry.
See photos here, here and here.
The provincial Dunswart laundry is doing some of the linen, but it is inadequate and leads to delays in getting enough clean linen.
Staff complain that the new CEO Dr Nthabiseng Makgana is often absent and lacks the skills to run this hospital effectively.
According to a written reply I have received from Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, there were irregularities in her appointment in that she has less than 10 years senior management experience, and does not have the required Masters degree qualification.
Conditions in the wards are deteriorating as beds do not have clean linen, pushing up the risk of infection.
The DA calls for the removal of Dr Makgana, who should be replaced by a CEO of proven competence to manage a R4 billion budget and 6000 employees.
