The Democratic Alliance has today handed over a memorandum of demands to Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi.

During the election campaign, the premier campaigned on the back of service delivery failures his government were responsible for, and subsequently promised the residents of Emfuleni:

–            Repairs to faulty transformers; and

–            Replacement of those that were no longer functional or reparable.

These promises came with an official deadline. March of 2024 came, and went without any transformers being repaired or replaced.

This coincided with a petition being heard by the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) from the residents of Emfuleni, with the same demands. The timeline of March 2024 was prescribed, and the Gauteng Provincial Government failed to meet it.

Residents of Emfuleni, one of the most problematic municipalities in South Africa, already cannot count on their local executive, there is no reason for destroying the little trust they had in the Provincial Executive.

The DA demands immediate action, seeing as these promises were made, they cannot be that hard to fulfill at this point.

A credible government knows not to make promises they cannot keep, we do however, expect the Gauteng executive to provide a response outlining the steps they are taking to service the residents of Emfuleni.

The DA is considering all other options to force the Executives hand in this regard, and the response we receive in this regard will determine which actions we take.
