Residents who find themselves without power could wait for up to seven days before the City of Ekurhuleni restores electricity under the newly proposed service delivery standards.

This is but one of the many irrational and non-sensical service delivery standards introduced by the leadership of ANC-EFF alliance in the City of Ekurhuleni.

Others insulting “standards” include waiting 10 days for noise complaints to be addressed, seven days to respond to traffic light outages and 48 hours to have a snake removed from a residence.

Touted as streamlining services to operate more efficiently, these new standards serve as a double-edged sword by which the ANC-EFF led City can absolve those officials who take their positions lightly, of wrong-doing while congratulating themselves for doing the bare minimum.

Little thought has been given to the real-world impact this will have on residents already burdened with an inefficient Executive, an ever-increasing cost of living crisis and a dire, city-wide economic depression.

The DA has rejected these so-called “service delivery standards”, insisting that they be reworked and return to council when they prove to have positive, not dire, consequences for our residents.

Anything less is to hold our residents in contempt. We will continue to build improved standards, and fight against those intent on breaking Ekurhuleni down.
