The MEC for Economic Development in Gauteng, Tasneem Motara, cares little about the needs of the various stakeholders in her department. Once again, the MEC failed to pitch for an important stakeholder engagement session at the Maropeng Heritage Site.
The issues around alleged corruption, fraud, and misappropriation of funds at the Maropeng Heritage Site were meant to be addressed during this session. These allegations have been ongoing for several years, and there has been little to no intervention from the Gauteng Department of Economic Development.
This is the second time that she has failed to meet with the Maropeng Heritage site stakeholders and the fifth meeting that she has failed to attend. By ignoring these stakeholders, the MEC is denying the residents an opportunity to engage her about the issues at Maropeng.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) demands that a full investigation be launched into these serious allegations at the Maropeng and Dinokeng heritage sites.
The DA has also tabled further questions in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) to the MEC to determine whether her department is aware of the allegations of corruption at the Maropeng Heritage Site and what action will be taken to discipline officials implicated in this matter.
