My Fellow South Africans,
We are gathered here today to unveil this billboard, which is a message to remind us of our challenges, but also a call to action that we can fix this. It is a message that we can change our government, and that the Democratic Alliance is the only party that can rescue Gauteng.
We are in the midst of a water, electricity, and jobs crisis in Gauteng. Our taps are running dry, our lights are going on and off, and many of us are struggling to make ends meet. Our once beautiful province and economic hub of our country is on the verge of a total collapse.
The current government has failed our people. They have failed to address the water, electricity, and jobs crises in Gauteng.
Imagine not having water for days on end. This is the reality for many people in Gauteng. They cannot drink water, cook, wash, or bath. They are forced to live in squalor and disease.
Imagine not being able to find a job. This is the reality for many people in Gauteng. The unemployment rate is the highest in the country. People are struggling to feed their families and put a roof over their heads.
Imagine not having electricity for hours on end. This is the reality for many people in Gauteng. Load shedding has become a daily occurrence. Businesses are closing their doors and jobs are being lost.
For months, we have highlighted the problems, we engaged Rand Water a year ago, but none of the promises were kept. We have called on the Minister to take action and fire the CEO as he has failed to address the water crises.
CEO of Rand Water, Sipho Mosai, has failed to address the water crisis in Gauteng. He has been in the position for over 10 years, and during that time, the water situation has only gotten worse.
Mosai has been accused of mismanagement. He has also been criticized for his failure to plan for the future.
The Minister of Water and Sanitation should fire Mosai and appoint a new CEO who is competent and able to address the water crisis.
The Democratic Alliance has a plan to rescue Gauteng. We will:
• Fix the water crisis by investing in infrastructure and upgrading water treatment plants.
• End load shedding by fixing the electricity grid and diversifying our energy mix.
• Create jobs by growing the economy and attracting new investment.
But we cannot do this without your help. We need you to vote for the Democratic Alliance in the next elections. But you cannot vote if you are not registered.
Your vote is your voice. It is your chance to make a difference in your future. In the previous election, the majority party got 2.1 million votes in Gauteng, while the Democratic Alliance got 1.1 million. If each one of us can bring one more person to vote for the Democratic Alliance, we can win Gauteng.
The future of Gauteng is in our hands. Let’s go out register and vote for the Democratic Alliance. Together, we can rescue Gauteng and rebuild the economic hub of our country.
Register to vote. Tell your friends and family to vote for the Democratic Alliance.
And I challenge you to check your registration status, register and bring one more person to vote on election day.
Make sure you are registered, and make sure you vote.
If Gauteng works, South Africa will work.
