On Monday, 29 May 2023, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Human Settlements, Meryn Cirota MPL, the DA Spokesperson for Human Settlements, Evert Du Plessis MPL and the Tshwane MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Ofentse Madzebatela will conduct oversight inspections at Olivenhoutbosch Extension 60 RDP houses and Townlands Social Housing Project in Tshwane.
The purpose of the oversight inspection is to assess the progress of building 1200 social houses in Townlands and establish when the RDP houses at Olivenhoutbosch will be completed.
Since the inception of the Olivenhoutbosch in 2020, 468 RDP houses remain incomplete.
Olivenhoutbosch is not formalised yet due to several delays in building houses, roads and the completion of the bulk water system. Though the residents have electricity installed, several works on the project were suspended in August 2022 due to section 116 review because the contractor had incurred additional costs.
The DA will assess the progress of these two projects and engage with the beneficiaries to ascertain how the delays in completing these projects have affected their livelihoods.
Members of the media are invited, and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
Details of the oversight inspections are as follows:
