On Thursday, 16 February 2023, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow MEC for Human Settlements, Mervyn Cirota MPL and the DA Member of section 79 Housing Committee, Cllr Faeeza Chame will conduct an oversight inspection at Electron and Springbok Informal Settlements in Johannesburg South.
The purpose of oversight inspection is to engage with residents and find solutions to pressing matters about housing, land invasions and lack of service delivery.
For years, the residents of Springbok Informal Settlement have lived in poor conditions. They do not have access to proper ablution facilities, no proper water supply and no reliable supply of electricity.
The DA will assess the extreme living conditions and engage with the residents of Electron Informal Settlements to determine a plan to migrate them from the invaded land they live on.
Members of the media are invited and there will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
The meeting point is at Moffat View Police Station.
