Yesterday, the ANC Youth League in Emfuleni Local Municipality took to the streets to protest against their own government for failing to deliver on basic services in the municipality. See photos here, here and here.
Emfuleni Local Municipality is on the verge of total collapse, facing institutional and financial challenges. The municipality is failing to pay service providers and has their bank account attached by the Sherriff.
The ANC Youth League protest comes after a failed motion of no confidence.
Following this motion, the office of the Mayor through his Spokesperson released a statement claiming victory and declaring that all is well in Emfuleni.
However, not nearly 24 hours after the motion of no confidence, their very own youth league is out in the streets protesting for better service delivery.
The Mayor should be less concerned with media statements and more focused on turning the municipality around and offering concrete and workable solutions to bring financial stability to the municipality.
We maintain our stance that Mayor Radebe must be removed as his incompetence is leading the municipality further down the drain.
If Mayor Radebe was an honourable man, he would tender his resignation to open room for someone more competent.
The DA calls on Premier David Makhura and the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Lebogang Maile, to take decisive action regarding the failing Provincial interventions put in Emfuleni which has not yielded any fruits. It is unacceptable that administrators come and go with no significant changes or improvements.
The people of Emfuleni deserve a government that will put their needs first by prioritising service delivery.
