The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng would like to congratulate Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela on his appointment as the new Police Commissioner.

The DA will be requesting an urgent meeting with the new Provincial Commissioner in order to outline our plan for an honest and professional police service that will ensure that there is order and that the people of Gauteng are kept safe. The fight against crime requires all of society to come together.

Our plan for an honest and professional police service centres around four elements:

  • Resourcing
  • Training
  • Equipment
  • Staffing

SAPS need to be professionalised in order to best serve communities across Gauteng. The DA has a clear plan in place to ensure the safety of Gauteng’s residents by rooting out corruption and hiring professional police who are passionate about service the people.

The residents of Gauteng are living in fear due to high rate of crime in the province. It is high time that our people are given a police force that is honest, professional and effective in fighting crime.

Only the DA can build One South Africa for All, where the people of Gauteng are kept safe by an honest and professional police.
