Commuters in the Vaal have had to endure ongoing service delivery protests by striking taxi-operators due to the non-completion of the Vereeniging Taxi Rank.

The rank, the construction of which was initiated in January 2014, was due to be completed in January 2015.

The project has been plagued by numerous set-backs, from labour and contractual disputes to re-designing plans due to ground constraints and sewage leaks.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi indicated in April last year that the project was to be completed in July 2018.

Last week the DA conducted an oversight visit to the rank due to numerous complaints from commuters and taxi operators.

There is very little at the site to show for the R54.8 million that has been ploughed into the project.

I will make sure that the failing ANC accounts to the people of the Vaal for this blatant abuse of public money.

This incomplete rank stands testament to the legacy of the failing ANC.

As is the case wherever the ANC governs, the people are placed behind the greed of deployed cadres.

On 8 May, the people of the Vaal will usher in a DA provincial government that will ensure that what was left broken by the ANC is fixed and that the dignity of our people is restored.
